Zoon Politikon established
After almost one year of preparation, we finally held the foundation meeting for »Zoon Politikon — Workshop for Politics & Economy« on April 16/17 in my flat in Berlin.
The initial idea for a young social science think tank had been born at a gathering of friends and university classmates in Münster and immediately recruited its first followers. Over the course of summer and fall 2010, a core of enthusiasts (me among them) sketched out a concept, researched legal requirements, and scouted possible fields of activity.
What is Zoon Politikon?
»Zoon Politikon — Workshop for Politics & Economy« is a association of young social scientists who want to realize scientific and practical projects beyond the scope of university.
Our approach is three-pronged:
- Learn: We want to increase our knowledge about topics and methods of social science, e.g. by holding and attending colloquia and workshops and by jointly exploring new fields of interest. We want to gather experience in the practical application of our education by realizing and supporting practical projects as an organisation and by facilitating relevant work experience for our members.
- Think: We want to produce and critically reflect socially relevant ideas and concepts and thereby demonstrate the capabilities of young social scientists and students.
- Do: We want to take on jobs and realize projects that foster learning and arise from our »thinking« activities.
Foundation meeting
A final planning effort in winter 2010/2011 culminated in the foundation meeting on 16/17 April 2011 in my flat in Berlin. Eight people attended, two more by proxy. Although there were lively discussions about what we want to do, how we want to do it and how we see and present ourselves, everyone signed the statutes of association.
Expect to hear more about ZP (our fancy acronym) on this blog in the future!
